Portfolio: Prints

These images are of relief prints, which essentially means they are big stamps. Most of them are made using lino, so they are called linoprints or linocuts. There are a couple of woodcuts too — same concept, different material. To produce them, I transfer or draw a picture onto a piece of lino and then carve away, using a sharp gouger, all areas of the picture I don't want to print.

I enjoy the flexibility of this medium as it employs quite a few different skills. I love the sculptural aspects of carving the lino/wood, the opportunity to make multiple copies, experimenting with different papers, and the option to hand-colour the final print.

It seems to have become a bit of an addiction: soon after I’m happy with a print, I want to make another one. Most of the pictures are copied from photographs that I have taken myself or have managed to cajole from friends. Thank you to those people who have lent me photos.
